Product photography? It’s in the bag.
One of the best parts of being small business owners is working with other local creatives and artists. We’re so excited when someone whose business we know and admire reaches out to us, and that was the case when the owner and artist behind Emily Ruth Prints got in touch. Emily was interested in product photography, not just for a few items, but for her entire collection of beautiful products–bags, wristlets, napkins, tea towels, t-shirts, and more! We knew Emily had a deadline for photographing certain items, so we actually met her the very same day she contacted us, at the wonderful Kindness Cafe, to discuss all of the details.
We do our best to make the entire process as pleasant and efficient as possible from start to finish, giving our clients enough space to decide the level of involvement they would like with their photography. Being a very creative person, Emily had some wonderful suggestions for us, such as organizing her colorful handmade bags like a rainbow. Together, we decided on what felt most important–soft natural light, consistency through all of her product types, and styling. We quickly got to work in the studio, testing out different lighting styles until we found something that felt right. After Emily’s approval, we got underway.
Part of what we can provide small businesses like Emily Ruth Prints is flexibility. Hand-making products, such as her large and small crossbody bags, is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, so it made perfect sense that every single product she wanted photographed might not be available at one time. We worked with her to photograph the products in batches whenever they were available, quickly returning them afterwards so they could be available for sale, all while retaining the clean, consistent style we established. This makes all the images (even if they’re taken months apart) look like they were photographed all together on the same day. This workflow also allows us to future-proof the product photography; as Emily designs new patterns or products, we can recreate her specific lighting style using all of the information we recorded during that very first shoot.
Sometimes it’s too difficult to see products go after having them in the studio, so we ended up snagging a beautiful large crossbody bag for a Mother’s Day present! We had a great experience working with Emily, and here’s what she had to say about collaborating with us:
“Working with Jeff and Erin has been such a dream! They truly care about their clients and not only deliver super high-quality work but make the experience collaborative and positive… I love their focus on local businesses, and am excited for future collaborations!”

After receiving the new photos that let her colorful prints and textures shine, Emily was inspired to redesign her website to better match the photos’ aesthetic. We’re so glad we were able to help elevate her brand and let it stand out in a crowded retail marketplace.
