September Sun Produce
Kendall from September Sun Produce, a family-run farm near Orange, Virginia, first reached out to Chime Studio last fall after seeing our work for local French bakery Cou Cou Rachou. She asked us to design a brand identity, and capture photography, for a new farmers market and CSA pick-up at Lampo Pizza in downtown Charlottesville. Featuring their own fresh produce, plus meats, flowers, kombucha, gelato, jewelry, vintage clothing, and other products from local growers and artists, the market is open on Tuesdays from April to November. Not only is SNAP/EBT accepted, but customers paying with this method will get 50% off fruits and vegetables. We loved this idea and worked with the client to create a brand that is friendly, welcoming, and fun. We’ve had a great time visiting the market each week since it opened, and we hope you’ll check it out too.
We waited until the growing season was in full swing before heading to the fields with our cameras. This was our first time visiting the farm and witnessing firsthand the hard work and dedication that Kendall, her husband Finn, and their great friend Dan put in week after week. We had a great time shadowing them while capturing images and learning about the farm. We also enjoyed meeting their chickens and three lovable goofball dogs. We focused on taking editorial photos that reflect a day in the life of these farmers, including their daily meeting and harvesting in the fields and covered tunnels. But we also kept our eyes out for interesting details as we wandered around the farm on this beautiful spring morning.
We went to the Little Market at Lampo the next day and were able to see the very same produce Kendall and team had picked during our visit available for sale. While September Sun Produce anchors this market, many other vendors join them, and we’ve enjoyed delicious goat cheese from Caromont Farm, dessert from Splendora’s Gelato, refreshments from Mountain Culture Kombucha, and immaculate flower bouquets from Pigeon Top Flowers. This Tuesday market is a wonderful place to visit and hang out, and has become a real one-stop shop for us.
